Our Troop

Welcome to BSA Troop 171!  Troop 171 is an active troop with weekly meetings on Monday evenings at 7pm.  We meet at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 647 Forge Road, in Carlisle — right in-between the towns of Carlisle and Boiling Springs.  Our troop is part of the Pioneer District in the New Birth of Freedom Council of the Boy Scouts of America.  As an active, boy-led troop, we hold Patrol Leaders’ Council (PLC) meetings immediately prior to most Monday evening sessions with several adults supporting the youth leaders.

With nearly eight decades of continuous Scouting in our history, BSA Troop 171 was first chartered in June of 1944.  Originally chartered in Boiling Springs, we are now chartered by American Legion Post 674 in Mt. Holly Springs; and meet weekly at Otterbein United Methodist Church in Carlisle.  Scouts who attain the rank of Eagle are usually part of a rare breed — currently averaging less than 6% of all Scouts.  Boys in Troop 171 attain Eagle if they wish and work for the goal.  And at more than 15% of our Troop membership, the path to Eagle is well-supported.  Our Scouts come from the Boiling Springs and Carlisle school districts.

In addition to our weekly meetings, a typical month in our troop may include a camping trip, a community event, and an opportunity for participation in or volunteering at other Scouting events.  Please check out our calendar page for more information on what is happening at Troop 171.
